Lufia II (known in Japan as Estpolis Denki II) is a universally acclaimed role-playing game released on 24 February 1995. Developed by Neverland and published by Taito, it acts as a prequel to the original game and is widely regarded as one of the finest RPGs on the system.
Key Features
-
Puzzle-Focused Dungeons: Unlike standard RPGs of the era, dungeons feature intricate, Zelda-style environmental puzzles utilizing tools like bombs, hooks, and arrows.

Visible Encounters: Random battles are eliminated inside dungeons; monsters move only when the player moves, allowing for strategic avoidance or engagement.
-
Capsule Monsters: Players can find, feed, and evolve seven different AI-controlled "Capsule Monsters" to fight alongside the party.
-
The Ancient Cave: Features a legendary, optional 99-floor procedurally generated roguelike mega-dungeon that offers endless replayability.
Language and Availability
-
Official Status: Released worldwide to critical acclaim. The Japanese Super Famicom version features beautiful cartridge/box art and is highly prized by collectors.
-
Fan Translations: As a massive, text-heavy JRPG, playing in English is mandatory to enjoy the story. Retron 5 users can easily apply a Fan Translation patch or an NTSC script insertion patch to play the game seamlessly in English.
